From a single sanding crew to a full-service flooring studio

Southern Cross Floors started in 2009 with one drum sander, a borrowed van, and a small list of residential refinishing jobs in Nagpur. What began as a two-person crew repairing worn teak floors grew into a studio that now handles custom inlays, engineered wood installations, and commercial projects across the region. The milestones below mark the decisions that shaped how we work today.

How Southern Cross Floors Grew

From a single sanding crew to a full-service flooring studio, our timeline tracks the decisions, tools, and people that shaped how we work today.

2011 - First Workshop in Nagpur

We started with two sanders, a rented van, and a small list of residential refinishing jobs. The early focus was simple: match the stain, protect the grain, and show up when promised.

2014 - Engineered Wood Division

As clients asked for options beyond solid oak, we added engineered wood sourcing and installation. This let us handle basements, radiant-heat rooms, and large commercial spaces without compromising stability.

2017 - Custom Inlay Studio

After a lobby project with brass accents, we built a dedicated inlay workshop. CNC routing and hand-set borders became a regular part of our service, not a special request.

2020 - Refinishing Lab and Finish Testing

We invested in a small finish lab to test matte, satin, and low-VOC topcoats on actual plank samples. Every quote now includes a wear recommendation based on foot traffic, sunlight, and cleaning habits.

2023 - Showroom and Sample Library

Our GhanshyamGunj showroom now holds over 120 oak, walnut, and engineered samples. Clients book a consultation, feel the grain, and leave with a written specification sheet before any work begins.

2025 - Maintenance Care Program

We launched a scheduled care plan for past installations: annual inspections, spot repairs, and re-oiling for matte finishes. The goal is to keep floors looking installed, not just installed.

Partners We Work With

Our flooring projects come together through close coordination with architects, interior designers, and construction teams who rely on us for material expertise and precise installation.

Architectural Firms

Local architecture studios send us their custom floor layouts, from herringbone living rooms to wide-plank office spaces. We handle the technical side: subfloor prep, moisture checks, and pattern alignment that matches their drawings.

Interior Designers

Designers bring us their stain palettes and grain preferences for residential renovations. We supply sample boards, discuss durability for high-traffic areas, and adjust finishing techniques until the color matches the room's overall scheme.

Construction Contractors

Builders and renovation crews coordinate with us on scheduling so flooring installation fits into the broader project timeline. We arrive with the right tools, protect adjacent surfaces, and hand over a clean, walkable floor on the agreed date.

Property Managers

For commercial spaces and rental properties, we provide refinishing services that extend the life of existing hardwood. Property managers appreciate our straightforward maintenance guidance and the reduced downtime between tenants.

Material Suppliers

We source white oak, walnut, and engineered wood from established suppliers who share our standards for grain consistency and moisture content. This relationship lets us offer clients reliable material options with clear lead times.

Who we are

A flooring team that treats wood as a craft

Southern Cross Floors started with a simple observation: most flooring contractors sell planks, but few understand how grain, moisture, and finish behave together in a real room. We built our practice around that understanding, working with residential and commercial clients across Nagpur who want floors that last decades, not just look good in photos.

Binita Chaudhary

Leads material selection and grain matching. She spends most days in the warehouse checking moisture content and sorting planks so the floor you see in the showroom is the floor that arrives on site.

Founder, material sourcing

Saurabh Mannan

Runs installation crews and handles the tricky parts: subfloor prep, pattern alignment, and transitions between rooms. He has installed herringbone layouts in more than forty homes.

Installation lead

Charu Lall

Manages refinishing projects and custom stain matching. She works with clients to test finishes on actual offcuts before committing to a full floor, so the final color is never a surprise.

Refinishing specialist

Mini Jha

Coordinates project timelines and client communication. She is the person who calls you with updates, schedules site visits, and makes sure the quote matches the final invoice.
